Zurich Insurance boss Mario Greco has lured a former colleague from Generali to be the Swiss insurer's new head for Asia-Pacific.

Based in Hong Kong, Jack Howell will take up the position as regional CEO of Zurich in Asia-Pacific on September 1.

Howell will report to Mario Greco, overall CEO of Zurich since May. Two two men know each other well: Greco previously ran Italian insurer Generali.

Asia Veteran

Stuart Spencer, who holds the position of regional CEO of Zurich in Asia Pacific ad interim, will remain in the region working closely with Howell, Zurich said.

Howell has held a similar position at Generali since last year. He has over twenty years of insurance experience in Asia Pacific, including senior roles in the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia at AIG and Prudential.

Hired for Asia Growth

«Jack’s extensive experience coupled with his leadership capabilities make him the ideal person to strengthen our position in Asia Pacific, where we see exciting potential to develop our business, he will continue to build our presence in the region and drive profitable growth,» Greco said in a statement.

Earlier this year, the insurer denied it planned to exit parts of Asia, as finews.asia reported at the time.
