Patrik Gisel, the CEO of Raiffeisen, had announced as much in an interview with finews.ch. Now the bank is putting intention into practice: the «red giant» is closing two high-street branches in the canton of Aargau and more are set to follow.

Switzerland's Raiffeisen bank will close the offices in Dintikon and Haegglingen, two towns in the canton of Aargau. The decision came as the needs of customers changed, according to a report by «Aargauer Zeitung» yesterday.

The staff of the two offices will keep their jobs and continue at the bank's branch in Villmergen instead. Raiffeisen closed the branches following a reevaluation of the distribution network.

One in Five to Shut

Raiffeisen has 980 branches in Switzerland. Raiffeisen CEO Patrik Gisel plans to cut the number by some 200 over the course of two years, he told finews.ch in an interview recently.
