Swiss Re, the world’s second-largest reinsurer, has opened new offices in Manchester in a bid to better serve corporate clients in the Northwest of England. The head of the office used to work for a rival firm.

Swiss Re has had offices in London since a considerable period of time and even made a major contribution to the skyline of the metropolis: the Swiss reinsurer commissioned the construction of the so-called Gherkin, a skyscraper in the City of London opened in April 2004, designed by Ken Shuttleworth and Sir Norman Foster.

It now has opened an office in Manchester, in the Northwest of England, from where the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions unit will serve the business clients of the company in the region, according to a report by «Reinsurance News» today.

The new offices will serve as regional hub for the business with medium-sized and large corporate clients as well as the acquisition of new customers.

Swiss Re has appointed Shelley Wright as the head of the bureau in Manchester. Wright has more than 30 years of experience of working in the region and broad market expertise, according to the report. She joins the Swiss company from Lorega, a U.K.-based insurer.
