UBS has entrusted its German onshore operations to an experienced Swiss banker who has spent the bulk of her career at foreign banks.

UBS named Barbara Rupf Bee as head of the Swiss bank's onshore private bank in Germany, effective August 1, according to «Private Banking Magazin».

She takes on a role made vacant when Thomas Rodermann was named head of UBS for both on- and offshore banking in Germany as well as Austria in a management revamp earlier this month.

Rupf Bee will be responsible for the unit's operational steering. This will in turn free up Rodermann to devote more time to his role as head of UBS' European bank in Frankfurt, responsible for Germany at large, and teams in Switzerland which look after German clients.

Deutsche Bank Turmoil

Until last August, Rupf Bee worked (link in German) for Deutsche Bank's wealth and asset management unit running distribution in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, investment specialists, and product planning.

Her tenure at the bank came in a disruptive time for Deutsche Bank: co-headsJuergen Fitschen and Anshu Jain eventually cleared their desks in favor of current Chief Executive John Cryan.

Prior to the German lender, Rupf Bee was CEO of Renaissance, an asset management focused on emerging markets, for roughly 18 months.

Hedge Fund Specialist

She spent nearly ten years with British bank HSBC, beginning in hedge fund distribution before taking on responsibility for alternative investments and ultimately leading global distribution for institutional clients.

The California-educated Rupf Bee began her career as an investment banker with Nomura und J.P. Morgan. She later moved to Julius Baer, where she ran hedge fund unit Creinvest from 1999.

Her hire completes UBS' German management team. Besides Rupf Bee, Rodermann's direct reports will include Sonia Goessi for offshore banking in both Germany and Austria as well as Wolfgang Eisl for onshore private banking in Austria.
