Julius Baer is set to hire a prominent female banker, the first to join the bank's top board. She joins from GAM, where she was one of very few women in the top echelons of Swiss banking.

Jan Bielinski, chief communications officer, will retire from Julius Baer's top management in June, the bank said today as it released it full year results.

Bielinski (pictured below) will be succeeded in that role by Larissa Alghisi Rubner, who is currently part of asset manager GAM's top management.

The move is significant for Alghisi, one of very few women in top management roles in Swiss banking or fintech, as well as for Baer, a traditionally male-dominated firm.

Collardi's Glamour

Alghisi, who is Swiss and Italian, spent 11 years at UBS in various senior corporate and financial communications roles, including during the financial crisis when Switzerland's largest bank was forced to take a government rescue package. She has a masters in business from St. Gall.

At Baer, she will report to Chief Executive Boris Collardi (pictured below), a young and charismatic Swiss banker with a taste for glamour that isn't always in the interest of a low-key private bank.

«I am pleased to welcome Larissa Alghisi Rubner, a seasoned communications professional, as our new Chief Communications Officer. I wish her a lot of success in her new function,» Collardi said in a statement.
