Société Générale Private Banking cut 80 jobs in Switzerland in October. Now it has hired two new regional managers for Zurich and Geneva – with a mandate to strengthen their teams.

Société Générale Private Banking Switzerland (SGPB) appointed Stefano Retti to manage the regional market in the Geneva bureau and Klaus Wiemann to the equivalent position in Zurich, the company said today.

Mandate to Hire Relationship Managers

Wiemann and Retti will be able to hire additional relationship managers and specialists to strengthen their private-banking teams. SGPB had announced in December 2016 that it planned to expand its operations in Switzerland.

Two months earlier, the French bank cut 80 jobs in Zurich, Geneva and Lausanne, shuttering the branch in Lausanne.

A Past at Credit Suisse

Wiemann joins the French bank from Credit Suisse (CS), where he had been for 13 years, most recently as a senior relationship and business development manager HNWI for Northern Europe. Previously, he worked as head of Group e-Learning at Holcim, the cement maker.

Retti 160Retti (pictured left) managed the Geneva branch of Bank CIC for six years. Before this position, he was active at several Internet start-ups in London. He started his career at UBS in Geneva and moved to arch-rival CS in 2005, working as a private banker for the Swiss onshore business.
