Syz, the Geneva-based banking group, appointed an experienced Credit Suisse banker as new head of wealth management. He will replace Fabian Dufresne, who decided to go into retirement.

Silvan Wyss is the new head of wealth management at Syz, according to a statement by the bank today. The 49-year-old banker has also been appointed to the group executive committee. He replaces Fabian Dufresne, who retires after more than 10 years at the company.

The new head of wealth management will focus on the further development of the business in Switzerland, as well as having to accelerate the expansion strategy for private banking in Latin America and Africa.

Since the takeover of the Swiss unit of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Syz has a branch in the U.S., which is instrumental for its Latin American business.

Career at McKinsey, Credit Suisse

Wyss has spent several years in managing positions at Credit Suisse (CS). His last job was as global head of advisory and wealth planning. He previously had been in charge of CS' private banking operations in Latin America.

Wyss has an engineering degree from the prestigious ETH Zurich and an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management in Cambridge (U.S.). He started his business career as a consultant for financial companies at McKinsey.
