Syz Bank's investment arm has appointed a new Benelux head. The region could gain in importance in the wake of Brexit.

Syz investment arm said on Tuesday it is naming Pierre Seydel as head of Benelux.

Seydel, who has more then 27 years experience in finance, will be based in Brussels and report to Florent Guy-Ducrot. He spent the last 12 years at Blackrock, the world's largest asset manager, as head of distribution for Benelux, France and Monaco.

The Geneva-based private bank also said it appointed Nico Cacciabue as head of key accounts for the unit, a role in which he will cultivate relationships with the bank's worldwide distribution partners.

Cacciabue was previously with Credit Suisse and Zurich-based asset manager GAM. The appointments come as Syz expands forcefully in asset management: last year, the firm opened branches in Milan and Munich.

The Benelux move takes on renewed meaning against the backdrop of Britain's planned exit from the European Union.

Katia Coudray, overall head of Syz's asset management arm, told finews.com last year that could bolster its Luxembourg branch in order to secure a lucrative EU passport.
