Société Générale’s private bank is strengthening its private equity business. The new head of the unit has joined the French bank coming from rival Credit Suisse.

Société Générale (Socgen) has appointed Simon Ibbitson as head of the private equity funds business of its private bank, the company said in a statement today.

In his role as head of private equity funds, Ibbitson will also be in charge of the Swiss private equity business. Manuel Keiser (pictured below), who joined the bank in Zurich in May, will support him in this task.

Ibbitson is joining the French bank coming from Credit Suisse (CS). He had been at the Swiss No.2 since 2008 and was one of the driving forces behind the development of the private equity team in the Wealth Management division.

Before his time at CS, Ibbitson had worked for the biggest Swiss bank, UBS. There, he had also built a private equity team, also in wealth management.
