The former head of Clariden Leu's private bank in the U.K. has resurfaced, finews.com has learned. The British banker is reuniting with several former colleagues at another Swiss-based firm.

Graham Stapeley ran Clariden Leu's private bank in the U.K. from 1997 until 2014, when the Swiss bank sold the unit to Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund. The unit was subsequently folded into Falcon Private Bank, which is controlled by the emirate.

Stapeley left Falcon, which has since been ensnared in the 1MDB scandal, that same year and spent several years consulting family offices. Now, finews.com has learned that the British banker will join Porta Advisors, a finance boutique which is led by former Clariden Leu investment head Beat Wittmann. Porta confirmed the move.

The Zurich-based firm had already grabbed several high-profile bankers from Clariden Leu, which disappeared into parent Credit Suisse more than six years ago. Earlier this year, Roland Knecht joined Porta as an advisor. The firm's top management includes Daniel Kornmann and Katja Parisi, both ex-Clariden Leu executives.
