A malware is currently attacking the systems of two of Switzerland’s major banks. Customers should be cautious, even though the UBS login system so far has been regarded as safe.

«Out online banking has never been hacked,» said UBS Switzerland boss Lukas Gaehwiler at a press conference yesterday. Never say never – and keep your guards up. IT magazine «Computerwelt» (read the story in German) reported that a trojan currently was primed to attack the systems of UBS and Raiffeisen members banks in Switzerland.

Cyber criminals have placed a trojan – «Bankbot» – in the play store of Google, using seemingly harmless apps such as flashlights or solitaire games. The criminals are aiming to steal money via the mobile-banking access of customers. They are manipulating the surface of banking apps to get the access data for the mobile banking, the magazine said.

Tampering With App Surface

The attack, which was launched globally and affects about 160 banks, in Switzerland is aimed at UBS and Raiffeisen in particular. It is not known, whether the attacks have been successful.

Experts said that users should check carefully whether the app surface had been tampered with in an attempt to protect themselves against «Bankbot».
