Karl will go into retirement, having in total worked for 17 years at the world’s second-largest reinsurer.

Haegeli will be in charge of economic research, forecast and advice to the executive. He will also act to strengthen long-term investments and improve the company’s financial resilience. The economist will report to Jeffrey Bohn, the director of the Swiss Re Institute.

Haegeli currently is in charge of the investment strategy of the group asset management at Swiss Re. Before joining the Zurich-based company in 2008, he worked for Julius Baer, the International Monetary Fund, the Swiss National Bank and UBS Warburg. He is a member of several committees of the World Economic Forum.
