A Swiss foundation set up to govern embattled cryptocurrency Tezos met an end-January deadline to replace a trustee. The new hire is has experience in delicate matters.

Tezos' Zug-based foundation named Lars Haussmann as its third board member, it said late on Wednesday. The decision was reached unanimously, meaning that both its controversial head, Johann Gevers, as well as ordinary member Diego Ponz backed it.

The full constitution of Tezos' foundation board comes against the backdrop of a battle between Gevers and Kathleen and Arthur Breitman, the French-American couple who developed the technology behind the currency.

Haussmann, a Swiss fiduciary, replaces Guido Schmitz-Krummenacher, who threw in the towel after the battle broke out. Switzerland's foundation regulator had given Tezos until the end of January to replace him.

Russian Ties

Tezos said the fully-constituted foundation board will now focus on setting up operations and organization, including updating its administrative and accounting processes. Earlier this week, it emerged that millions in foundation funds had been frozen for several months last year amid the infighting.

Haussmann is well-known in Swiss finance circles: he is a partner at his family's fiduciary and auditing firm, and sits on various boards as a result. In 2009, the very discreet Haussmann surfaced in his role on the board of Swiss-registered gas trading firm Rosukrenergo, which maintained ties to Gazprom.

Then, Haussmann asked the Swiss government to intervene on behalf of Rosukrenergo after the firm's supplies were cut off during as a result of the Russia-Ukraine standoff. The firm has since been liquidated.
