Swiss private bank Mirabaud is expanding in Basel – and poaching from larger rival Credit Suisse to do so.

Geneva-based private bank Mirabaud is moving its offices in Basel into the Hardhof, a property erected in 1904 in the city's Gellert area. The bank, one of a handful of privately-held Genevan «banquiers privés» remaining, said it is hiring Kaspar Hess (pictured below) and three other Credit Suisse private bankers for the office.

Hess is a ten-year veteran of Credit Suisse, where he is currently head of the Swiss bank's entrepreneurs and executives segment in northern Switzerland.

Expanding in Basel Region

With the new appointees, Mirabaud has a team of 15 advisers working from the Basel offices. Mirabaud first moved to the city, known as the home of drugmakers Novartis and Roche, in 2004. Now it aims to broaden its business in the region, which borders Germany and France.

Nicolas Mirabaud, a partner at the group, said: «Much as Zurich, where we've been present since 1998, Basel is an important center of private wealth management in Switzerland.»
