The fintech revolution at Swiss insurer Baloise is in full swing: the company has eyed up a German company that tries to get rid of human error.

Baloise is investing in Omni:us, a Berlin-based company specialized in identifying and extracting key data from a stream of documents, the Swiss firm said in a statement on Tuesday.

The software of Omni:us knows to put handwritten texts from historic and modern-day origin in their right context. The aim is to shift monotonous and costly administrative work into the hands of a computer, eliminating the error-prone human factor.

The Basel-based insurer didn’t provide financial details of the investment. In 2016, it had made available 50 million Swiss francs for investments in startups with the potential to help promote the digital development of the company. For that purpose, Baloise signed a partnership with investment and consultancy firm Anthemis.
