The allegation about the rape of a UBS employee by her manager in London has prompted the interest of the U.K. financial market authority.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has established contact with the presumed rape victim, a former UBS member of staff, according to a report by the «Financial News», a U.K.-based financial news organization (story behind paywall).

The former UBS employee was sexually molested by her manager in the autumn of last year, according to media reports and the FCA has now discussed the case with her.

Lack of Feedback

In July, the female banker sent UBS investment banking head Andrea Orcel a letter, in which she explained her case. She also criticized the handling by the bank, specifically because she said hadn’t received a feedback regarding the results of the internal inquiry by the bank.

«Financial News» wrote that the victim of the rape had been transferred repeatedly against her wish during the investigation by the bank. She also says to have been threatened with dismissal should she discuss her ordeal outside the bank.

Eradicate Behavior

UBS did not comment the claim. Orcel last week said in an interview that it was his career goal to eradicate this type of wrongdoing at the bank. UBS has already announced that it would evaluate its response in such cases.
The victim and the suspect in this case don’t work at the bank any longer.
