The theft of exclusive wine from Goldman Sachs boss David Solomon should have ended in court for a former New York banker. However the alleged thief never appeared for his appointment.

The long-time personal assistant to the new Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon was due to appear in a New York at the start of the week, when he was expected to admit to a curious misdemeanor: the 41-year-old allegedly over a long period stole hundreds of bottles of his boss’s expensive wine, which he then sold. The cost of the theft is estimated at some $1.2 billion.

However the admission of guilt preceded any court appearance. The former assistant threw himself out of the window of a Manhattan hotel, as the financial portal «Financial News» also reported. This also caused consternation with his former boss. The assistant had been close to the Solomon family, which was saddened by his tragic end, the CEO said.
