The German government is looking more closely into the potential of the blockchain technology and has asked the finance department to design a strategy.

In Switzerland, the region around the city of Zug, dubbed crypto-valley, the dynamic had abated somewhat when the Swiss government came around to make up its mind on the virtues of all things fintech and crypto. In Germany, the process is only just starting, with Finance Minister Olaf Scholz and Economics Minister Peter Altmaier taking the lead.

The government intends to present a blockchain strategy by the summer, according to a report in «Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung». Scholz is taking the pulse among interested groups via a dedicated website.

The strategy will include a section on how the problems of data protection and excessive use of energy should be approached.
