Online bank Swissquote intends to expand its business and expects to add more staff in coming years. A major source of growth is the business with cryptocurrencies.

Gland-based Swissquote, which provides a trading platform for retail customers, currently has a workforce comprising some 600 people. CEO Marc Buerki expects to increase the number of staff, according to a report by «24heures» (behind paywall).

The company has bought a patch of land in Gland and plans to build offices for a further 1,000 employees. Buerki expects to move the first bankers to the new building in about five years time.

Swissquote is well prepared for the digital age, the CEO told news agency «AWP» separately. It expects the trading with cryptocurrencies to become a major source of growth.
