After a stint in the world of cryptos, an experienced banker is clocking back in at Credit Suisse, according to information obtained by finews.com. She is taking charge of an important business at the Swiss unit.
Credit Suisse Switzerland appointed Désirée von Michaelis as head of wealth planning within its private banking business. The bank confirmed the appointment to finews.com.
Von Michaelis is taking over from Bruno Achermann, who will stay at the bank and act as head of the Functional & Sales Management unit within private banking.
Time Spent in Zug
Von Michaelis has two decades of experience as a banker, with many years spent at Credit Suisse, Switzerland’s second-largest bank. She was at the bank from 2009 through the summer of 2018 and was employed in a series of management roles in distribution, marketing and product management.
In August, von Michaelis took her leave and moved into fintech. She was appointed head of Hypoterra, a Zug-based crypto-startup. Hypoterra is a startup active in the financing of mortgages and loans for the real estate business. It refinances the business through securities issued in the shape of digital tokens and coins.
The board of Hypoterra includes prominent business people, including Richard Eisler, the founder and chairman, and Werner Schiesser, the head of BDO auditors.
Fast in and Fast out
Von Michaelis took to describe herself as «fast blockchain learner», but at the end of January, she put an end to her time in the fintech world, according to the Swiss company registry.
At Credit Suisse, her short stint in fintech didn’t seem to have damaged her reputation. Her new role is of a key importance for the Swiss business. Wealth planning offers support in financial planning, inheritance issues and tax advise.
The unit is a key pillar for the bank that aims to be a partner for rich entrepreneurs and corporate clients in the management of their assets. The bank has set up a unit including 100 experts of different fields at six places across Switzerland for this purpose.
