Bernhard Hodler, the chief executive officer of Julius Baer, is his predecessor’s equal – at least in regard to the compensation package.

The Zurich-based private bank in 2018 paid Bernhard Hodler a total of 6.16 million Swiss francs ($6.15 million). The CEO received 1.36 million francs more than a year earlier, according to the annual report published on Monday.

Hodler became CEO in November 2017, after Boris Collardi resigned and joined Pictet, a rival private bank based in Geneva.

A Cash Bonus of 1.85 Million Francs

Hodler is earning a similar amount as Collardi did – and Collardi was considered well paid. Hodler receives a basic salary of 1.5 million francs – the same as his predecessor. In addition, he was awarded a cash bonus of 1.85 million francs plus so-called deferred performance units worth 2.3 million francs and payments into his pension funds.

Premium Payment for Risk Chief

Julius Baer’s executive earned a total of 20.6 million francs in 2018. Oliver Bartholet, who was made chief risk officer in April 2018, was the recipient of an extra payment worth 3.1 million francs.

Outgoing Julius Baer Chairman Daniel Sauter received 1.1 million francs, the same as in the previous years.
