Switzerland's financial regulator is hiring to fill the vacancy left by the death of Michael Loretan. The new watchdog for the asset management industry is currently with Abu Dhabi's financial regulator.

Finma, the Swiss financial regulator, is naming Thomas Hirschi to oversee asset managers, it said in a statement on Monday. He replaces Michael Loretan, who died suddenly in January.

The 44-year-old Hirschi spent the last four years in Abu Dhabi, where he helped the gulf's financial center set up its regulatory authority as well as authorizing and supervising banks and insurance companies. He previously worked for Finma from 2004 until leaving for the Emirates in 2015. He takes over the 50-person strong Finma asset management unit next year.

The appointment completes Finma's top management under CEO Mark Branson. Last month, Finma promoted insurance head Birgit Rutishauser as Branson's deputy, in what is flagged as a rotating role.
