A Swiss banker will preside over Switzerland's business interests in Singapore. The move comes six months after the Zurich banking veteran moved to the city-state.

The Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Singapore is naming Georg von Wattenwyas its chairman, effective August 1. The 51-year-old Swiss banking veteran moved to the city-state earlier this year for Bank Vontobel as the bank's head of independent asset managers and family offices in Asia.

Von Wattenwyl replaces Tom Ludescher (pictured below), who had held the role for more than four years. Von Wattenwyl is also the chairman of the Swiss Structured Products Association since 2014.

The chamber is a linchpin for business between Switzerland and Singapore, which modeled its financial center on that of the alpine nation. The two countries enjoy cozy business ties, and Swiss companies' direct investment in Singapore exceeds $29 billion, according to the chamber.
