Almost 150 guests were on hand when Swiss finance portal finews.com celebrated its tenth anniversary. A look at the evening’s festivities at Zurich’s baroque city palace Meisen.

finews.com began as finews.ch (in German) in autumn of 2008 reporting on the Swiss government’s rescue of UBS during the financial crisis. The Swiss-based media outlet formally began in 2009, now marking ten years of reporting breaking news, feature stories, industry developments, opinions, and people and trends in the finance sector.

«We chose the name finews because we wanted to focus on high-quality and reliable news as well as opinions on finance. In hindsight, we were ahead of our time: well-grounded and reported information is a rare commodity in an age of prevalent ‘fake news’,» co-founder and CEO Claude Baumann told the more than 150 guests on hand. He credits the approach with the success of finews, which now encompasses three websites employing 16 journalists and other staff.

«Our employees are our most valuable capital and the reason we are successful,» editor Peter Hody said. He welcomed to the event correspondents from Singapore and Hong Kong, where finews has been operating finews.asia successfully for nearly five years.

The finews-team is pleased with its most recent reader data, which represent a new record for the outlet. The website reaches 421,000 unique users and 1.9 million page impressions monthy, according to Google Analytics.
