The Libra Association has officially started its activities. Most of its remaining members have only indirect links to the financial industry.

The global payment system Libra has been heavily criticized since the launch of the project that is based on Facebook. Over the past weekend, it was reported that credit card firms Visa and Mastercard, online payment service Paypal and Stripe as well as Ebay no longer are part of the project.

And still, the Libra Association on Tuesday officially constituted its activities, according to a statement. A number of Blockchain companies, venture capital firms and Vodafone are founding members of Libra.

Management Team Appointed

David Marcus represents Facebook on the board of directors of Libra. He is the head of Calibra, the wallet project of Facebook. Previously, he also worked for Paypal, one of the companies that have left the project recently.

The team behind Libra will begin the process of designing a governance and policy structure, as well as an admission process that will be crucial for the acceptance of new members. The Libra board appointed Bertrand Perez as chief operating officer and interim managing director. Dante Disparte is head of policy and communications, while Kurt Hemecker acts as head of business development.
