Credit Suisse has poached a finance expert from Swiss Re for its international wealth management division. For the German paratrooper, the appointment means a return to his former employer.

Gerhard Lohmann in February 2020 will take over the role of chief financial officer at International Wealth Management at Credit Suisse, according to a statement by the bank on Tuesday. He assumes the position held by Philipp Wehle before he was appointed chief executive officer of the division in July.

Lohmann currently works as CFO of the reinsurance business at Swiss Re, the world’s second-largest reinsurer. He has been with the Zurich-based insurance giant for the past seven years, having joined from Credit Suisse, his past and now future employer. There, he worked as chief operating officer of asset management in the Emea region, in the rank of a managing director.

During his first stint at Credit Suisse, he played a key role in the divestment of one part of the asset management business to U.K. fund manager Aberdeen (what is now known as Aberdeen Standard Investments).

Lohmann received his training as a banker at Deutsche Bank, having finished his studies at University of Freiburg. According to his profile on LinkedIn, Lohmann served in the German army at the end of the eighties, earning his grade as lieutenant of the paratrooper division.
