3. Cash Hoarding

Inflation is low and interest even negative for the rich. No surprise then that cash has resurfaced as an asset for concerned investors. Central banks never before issued so much cash as they are currently doing, «The Wall Street Journal» reported earlier this month.

One reason for hoarding cash typically is a concern among private investors that the economic system may crash. In the years leading up to 2000, when the euro was introduced and banks and governments voiced their concern over a potential impact of the start of a new millenium on computer systems, the interest in cash increased. The craze was exacerbated following 9/11 and, a few years later, when the financial crisis hit markets across the globe.
