Credit Suisse has named the new head of its private-banking unit in Brazil, putting the responsibility for the business into the hands of an experienced banker. The banker was recently instrumental in forging a tie-up with a neobank.

Marcello Chilov has taken over at the helm of international wealth management in Brazil, Credit Suisse said in a statement on Monday.

He will take a seat on the unit’s executive and report directly to Philipp Wehle, the head of the division. Chilov has more than two decades of experience in banking, having spent the past eleven at Credit Suisse.

Digital Bank Partnership

The banker in the rank of managing partner so far was in charge of transactions, tactical and structured solutions at IWM in Brazil. He was the architect of the partnership agreement with Modalmais, a local digital bank. Modalmais has more than a million clients.

Credit Suisse sees Brazil as a key growth market and hopes to expand in the dominant economy of South America. The Swiss bank has been active in the country for more than sixty years.
