Swiss private bank Vontobel wants to extend its global reach via a digital offering. It has appointed a German fintech expert to lead this bid.

Toby Triebel was appointed as head of the client unit digital investing by Bank Vontobel. He will lead the bank’s charge to expand the digital solutions for global investors, said Vontobel in a statement on Monday.

The fintech expert has been behind the construction of various successful business plans and most recently led the European business of Canada’s robo adviser Wealthsimple. He also advises Spotcap, a lending platform he helped found. Triebel launched his career in finance at Goldman Sachs in 2005.

Broadening Its Digital Appeal

Vontobel called its new business challenger unit for digital investing and will start with the service on October 5. The Zurich-based bank will offer the investment and product expertise directly, via partnership agreements and in ecosystems to broader client groups via digital channels. Vontobel has two digital solutions already at work – Volt and Derinet.

The latest digital offering was built on Derinet, which is a business with certificates and leveraged products, and will extend the service with a broader investment expertise. The unit so far had been under the direct supervision of CEO Zeno Staub.
