A key Julius Baer banker in the Swiss bank's British push is defecting for the competition.

Brown Shipley is hiring Calum Brewster as head of private banking and client solutions, effective February 8 it said in an emailed statement. The hire of Brewster, who is defecting from Julius Baer where he is head of regional offices in the U.K., was first reported by «Citywire».

A veteran U.K. private banker, Brewster was part of a swath of wealth managers hired in the U.K. in 2017 from Barclays. The Swiss bank has opened regional offices in Belfast, Edinburgh,  Leeds, and Manchester alongside its London branch in a massive onshore push under David Durlacher; a Glasgow branch was flagged in 2017 but has not emerged.

Spearheading Talent Push

Brown Shipley is tasking Brewster with spearheading strategic growth as well as enhancing the skills of its private bankers. The bank, which traces its roots to the early 19th century, is one of nine European banks which form Quintet, a Luxembourg-based wealth manager owned by the ruling al-Thani family of Qatar.

Brewster, who will report to Brown Shipley CEO Alan Mathewson, is the latest in a series of high-profile hires for Quintet, which has plucked copiously from UBS and others. Last week, the Swiss arm of Quintet poached top J.P. Morgan banker Cindy Eicher-Battistini, as finews.com reported.
