Switzerland gets dragged down the ranks of the global corruption index by financial services.

Switzerland slipped to 12th this year from 8th place in 2020 in the Global Corruption Index (GCI), which was compiled by Global Risk Profile (GRP).

The Swiss company, which specializes in third party risk management services measures public and private corruption based on perception and experience and attributes a risk score to each country based on numerous variables.

Switzerland's decline relates to white collar crime, including money laundering and terrorism finance.

Pandemic Influence

Finland holds the first position in the world with the least perceived corruption, followed by Norway, New Zealand, Denmark and Sweden.

The GRP also indicated that there was a higher perception of corruption and an overall decline in government effectiveness observed between 2020 and 2021.
