The chairman of Credit Suisse reiterates his support for embattled CEO Thomas Gottstein.

Credit Suisse Chairman Axel Lehmann, is using the global soapbox of the World Economic Forum in Davos to once again offer his support to CEO Thomas Gottstein who has been targeted by efforts to oust him, according to an interview Lehmann gave to CNBC on Monday.

One of Credit Suisse's largest shareholders called for Gottstein to be replaced, according to a report from «Reuters,» while a separate report from «Bloomberg» (behind paywall) said the CEO could be replaced as early as this year.

In the CNBC interview, Lehmann countered this and acknowledged the bank is in a challenging position but still executing its plan to rebuild the firm.

«So in this regard, all the rumors and speculations — I have read them as well — it is rumors and speculations, and by the way, there are other investors that call me and say «Axel, make sure that you stabilize the company and don’t change all the wheels at the same time,» he said.

Gottstein has his full support, Lehmann said, «because he is good.»
