The former Credit Suisse chair is taking on an advisor role at the Italian bank.

António Horta-Osório will advise Mediobanca on the international expansion of its investment banking unit, the «Financial Times» (behind a paywall) reports Friday, citing people with knowledge of the appointment.

The Portuguese and British national, who resigned as chair of Credit Suisse in January, is being brought on board for his experience in European banking which is useful «in the context of the European banking sector’s consolidation,» the people said.

Line-Up

In addition to his role with the Italian bank which starts next month, Horta-Osório has several professional engagements lined up, the report added.

The Swiss bank forced its chairman to step down early this year after he caused a scandal over breaching COVID quarantine rules. Prior to working at Credit Suisse, Horta-Osório led British bank Lloyds back to profitability following the 2008/09 financial crisis.
