Generali Switzerland appoints a new Chairman, and names Martha Boeckenfeld as an independent board member.

Giovanni Liverani, the CEO for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH), is the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Generali (Switzerland), the insurer announced Tuesday in an emailed statement. 

His appointment is linked to the creation of a new business unit for the DACH region which covers a premium volume of 19.4 billion euros ($20.4 billion) and has an operating profit of 1.26 billion euros, making it the second-largest business unit within the Generali Group and the second-largest primary insurer in the DACH region.

In addition, the board of directors also appointed Martha Boeckenfeld as an independent board member, subject to approval at the General Shareholders' meetings on December 29 and the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (Finma) She succeeds Carola Wahl.

Boeckenfeld has been a member of the board of directors of Generali Investments Switzerland since October. She is a strategist and advisor for the Metaverse and Web3, Dean & Partner of the Metaverse Academy. She is a finance professional with over 20 years of experience in platform economics, dynamic ecosystems, digital business, and digital transformation. Boeckenfeld was responsible for the Key4 platform at UBS until 2021.

Long Career

Her career includes various management positions at Axa Winterthur, CEO at Kleinwort Benson, and CFO of the BHF Kleinwort Benson Group.

Thomas Gutzwiller, as another independent member of the board of directors, takes on the new role of chairman of the audit & risk committees. Francesco Ranut, chief insurance transformation officer for DACH also becomes a member of the Audit & Risk Committee. The Board of Directors of the DACH unit will be composed of Liverani (Chairman), Heike Ottemann-Toyza (Vice Chairman), Ranut, Gutzwiller and Boeckenfeld. starting January 1.
