Switzerland's largest reinsurer is lifting one of its own into the role of chief investment officer.

Swiss Re is appointing Velina Peneva as chief investment officer, effective April 1, it said in an emailed statement Monday. Peneva will take over from Guido Fuerer who is retiring after 25 years at the company.

Peneva, who joined the reinsurer in 2017, co-heads client solutions and analytics within Swiss Re's asset management division. Previously, she was responsible for Swiss Re's private equity investment business. Before her career at Swiss Re, Peneva worked for Bain & Company in the US, Australia, and Switzerland.

Internal Candidate

«We're pleased that with Velina Peneva, we've been able to find a capable internal candidate to lead our Asset Management unit forward. Velina has a very strong track record both within and outside Swiss Re.» CEO Christian Mumenthaler said in the statement.
