A change is coming to the general management at Zuercher Kantonalbank. Its new head of risk brings broad experience in foreign exchange and precious metals trading.

Zuercher Kantonalbank (ZKB) appoints Hjalmar Schroeder as its new head of risk and member of the General Management effective April 1 of next year. The 51-year-old has broad professional and management experience in the banking business, particularly in the areas of risk and trading, according to a media release (in German) Thursday evening.

Schroeder has been with ZKB for eight years, joining in 2015 as a senior market risk engineer, responsible for implementing new regulatory standards under Basel III as project manager. He then took over as head of market risk, and since 2020, he has been responsible for the sales and trading of foreign exchange and precious metals.

Formerly with UBS

Schroeder began his career in 1996 at Swiss Bank Corporation which became UBS in 1997, holding various management positions including executive director for automated price discovery in the foreign exchange and money markets. In his last position at UBS, he led a global IT team of 250 employees in foreign exchange trading.

He succeeds Roger Mueller, who is leaving the bank at the end of March as part of the regular succession planning for members of the Group Executive Board.
