The former head of Credit Suisse's Foundation is now taking over the philanthropic works at Julius Baer.

The Board of Trustees of the Julius Baer Foundation led by chairman Romeo Lacher, appoints Laura Hemrika as its new CEO. The philanthropy and corporate social responsibility specialist takes up the post as of today, according to a statement from the foundation Friday.

She takes over from Nathalie Jean-Baptiste, who led the foundation on an interim basis since the end of last year following the departure of former head Christoph Schmocker who left last year.

Responsible for Impact Investing

Hemrika has over two decades of experience in philanthropy, sustainability, and impact investing. She joins the Julius Baer Foundation from Credit Suisse, where she most recently served as the global head of Corporate Citizenship & Foundations and as managing director of the Credit Suisse Foundation.

She led the strategy and implementation of global philanthropic and engagement initiatives set the strategy for the bank's various foundations, and co-founded the SDG Impact Finance Initiative, a public-private partnership, and sits on several boards of international NGOs.

Charitable foundations play an important role in wealth management and are often part of an integral offering for wealthy clients. The Julius Baer Foundation was established in 1965 to support the arts, culture, and sciences as well as charitable causes in Switzerland and abroad. In recent years, the foundation focused on combating inequality in the areas of living standards and education, according to the release.
