An unprecedented six countries shared the top rank for being home to the most powerful passports in the world for visa-free travel, according to Henley & Partners.

The top position for the world’s most powerful passport was shared by six countries, according to the 2024 Henley Passport Index. The leading passports from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and Singapore can access 194 out of 227 destinations worldwide without a visa. 

Japan and Singapore have dominated the top rank for the past five years. South Korea, Finland and Sweden were in second place (193 destinations) while Austria, Denmark, Ireland, and Netherlands shared third place (192 destinations).

Middle Eastern Rise

In terms of the leader by ranking improvement, the UAE was the biggest climber on the index. Since 2014, it added 106 destinations for visa-free travel resulting in a ranking change from 55th to 11th.

The Henley Passport Index is based on exclusive and official data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The historical data spans over 19 years.
