Sarah Grgic: «Most Limits Exist only in our own Minds»
In the section Backstage, interesting personalities from the financial sector and beyond provide insights into their personal preferences every Wednesday.
What do you do first in the morning?
I like to start the day calmly and immediately with two coffees. It is a brief moment for myself before family and work gather pace. After that, I usually head straight outside for a short walk or make my way to the office.
What is the best part of your job?
Seeing ideas become reality. Whether it is new products, new locations or building something together with people in the team, it is rewarding. New products also always create moments of enjoyment.
A moment that changed your life?
My visit to Migros Klubschule in 2010, when I met my husband. Many of my most important decisions and fondest memories ultimately go back to that moment.
What cars do you own? Which is your favorite?
At the moment, I drive a VW Multivan and a Porsche Macan. My dream car, however, remains the Porsche 911. Not because of its performance or status, but because of the story behind it. For me, that car will always be associated with a very special moment – my husband’s marriage proposal. Some cars are more than just a means of transport. They become part of one’s personal story.
What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
Have more confidence in yourself. Most limits exist only in our own minds.
What are you particularly proud of?
The growth we have achieved at Max Chocolatier over the past few years. Not only economically, but also as a team and as a brand.
What do you do when you have doubts?
I go for a walk. Preferably early in the morning, when the world is slowly waking up. Movement often brings clarity when thoughts are circling.
What is your favorite wine?
It changes with the seasons. At the moment, I particularly enjoy the Sauvignon Blanc by Jean-Pierre Pellegrin – fresh, elegant and perfect for long summer evenings.
What projects are you currently working on?
On the further development of Max Chocolatier. In particular, on the question of how we can continue to make artisanal quality tangible and experiential in the future.
What do you admire in other people?
Down-to-earthness. People who have everything and yet have still kept both feet firmly on the ground.
What would be the biggest surprise for someone who had to take over your job for a day?
That good chocolate involves far more than a recipe. It is about people, craftsmanship, culture and clear values. And many would probably be surprised by how much time I spend leading and developing people rather than tasting chocolate.
What is your personal drive?
I want to show my children that origin, age or gender do not determine what is possible. With commitment, courage and perseverance, one can achieve more than one might think.
What are you afraid of?
Stagnation. I believe that people and companies only grow if they are willing to keep developing.
Your favorite watch brand?
When it comes to watches, what fascinates me most, in addition to timeless design, is the precision and attention to detail involved in the craftsmanship. The idea that hundreds of the finest components are assembled into a perfect whole still impresses me today. That is precisely why the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak appeals to me – not only as a design icon, but also as an expression of exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Is there an unfulfilled dream your would still like to realize?
A trip through Japan with my whole family. I am deeply fascinated by the combination of craftsmanship, culture, aesthetics and cuisine.
Your best investment?
My education at the University of St. Gallen. It not only gave me knowledge, but above all showed me the importance of critical thinking and an entrepreneurial perspective.
