Luzerner Kantonalbank will soon have a woman in charge of the supervisory board, one of the few chairwomen in Switzerland: the lawyer and prominent board member will take over from Mark Bachmann, who is due to leave in April.

Mark Bachmann, chairman at Luzerner Kantonalbank (LUKB), will leave the state-owned company on April 12. The board of the bank favors Doris Russi Schurter as its new president.

Russi Schurter (born 1956) has been a member of the board since 2010 and is currently head of the audit committee. The Lucerne-based lawyer is a prominent board member, for instance at Swiss, the national carrier, Helvetia insurance company, Swissgrid and publisher LZ Medien.

Career at KPMG

Before her career as an independent lawyer, Russi Schurter worked at KPMG Switzerland as a partner and head of the Lucerne branch.

Bachmann was chairman since 2011 and leaves the board after twelve years.

Wine and Fashion Expert for Board

The board also proposes Stefan Portmann for election to the board. Portmann was a co-owner of Schild fashion company. He is a member of the board of Calida, Stoeckli Swiss Sports and Flaschenpost Services, an online wine dealer.
