Christian Katz, the former head of SIX Swiss Exchange, has been awarded a prestige-laden mandate at the heart of Swiss private banking.

Christian Katz has been appointed to the board of directors of Banque Bonhôte, the company said in a statement today. The mandate at the Neuchâtel-based company is uncharted territory for Katz, who also is vice-president of Saxo Bank in Zurich, the Swiss branch of the Danish online-trading bank.

Katz recently told finews.com in an interview that he was open to take over as CEO of a company again, but that he currently had plenty to do and would probably take on a few more mandates as well.

Successful Private Banking

One of those new mandates will be with Bonhôte, one of the success stories in Swiss private banking. Founded in 1815, the company in recent years renewed its clientele, expanded in the French-speaking region of Switzerland and in Bern, the country’s capital.

Bonhôte, under the guidance of its Chairman Jean Berthoud also set new, much-discussed standards in the business with real-estate investments.

SIX, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan

Bonhôte has its headquarters in Neuchâtel and branches in Biel, Geneva, Bern and Lausanne. «In a context where boards of directors are continually becoming more professional by seeking to acquire specific, leading-edge skills, we are very happy to welcome Mr Katz as a specialist with thorough-going knowledge on how the Swiss and foreign financial markets operate,» Berthoud was cited as saying in the statement.

Katz holds a doctorate degree from the University of St. Gallen, where he also did his undergraduate studies. From 2009 to 2015 he was CEO of SIX, the group that runs the Swiss stock exchange, in Zurich. Previously, he had headed Goldman Sachs’s representative office in Switzerland and also worked for eight years in London at J.P. Morgan.

Bonhôte has a policy to publicize only a few of its key figures, such as net income and net new money. It does however not say how much money it manages.
