Online bank Saxo is tapping a veteran UBS banker who more recently wandered into the world of cryptocurrency.

Saxo Switzerland elected Andreas Amschwand to its board, the bank said on Wednesday. Amschwand replaces deputy chairman  Christian Katz, the former head of SIX's trading division, who opted not to stand for reelection.

The 60-year-old Amschwand spent 25 years at UBS, including as head of its foreign exchange trading, and head of its now-dissolved investment products and services unit. He headed for Julius Baer's board in 2012, and then left six years later in order to become chairman at Seba, which clinched a banking license last August.

At Saxo, the Swiss subsidiary of the Danish lender, Amschwand is to contribute his banking as well as fintech expertise – and his ample network in both worlds.
