Pictet Alternative Advisors, the private bank's alternative investment division, has hired a new head of hedge funds.

Geneva-based Pictet appointed Heinrich Merz as head of hedge funds at the Pictet Alternative Advisors (PAA), the company said in a statement today.

Merz is in charge of a team of 14 hedge fund experts, managing assets worth 9.1 billion euros invested in single- and multi-manager-hedge-fund strategies. Merz reports to Nicolas Campiche, the CEO of PAA.

Experience in Alternative Investments

Merz has a dozen years of experience in alternative investment. His most recent position was chief investment officer at Amundi Alternative Investments, responsible for alternative assets of institutional clients.

Previously, he worked as deputy chief investment officer for Permal Investment Management, a firm specialized in alternative investment. He began his professional career in 2005 at Concordia Advisors as a senior analyst.

Merz has a Master in International Relations from Columbia University in New York and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
