UBS has suffered an exodus at its Russia desk in Zurich, losing six private bankers and a risk specialist to a tiny Swiss rival.

Zurich-based wealth manager Clarus Capital has stolen a march on Swiss giant UBS, snapping up a six-person advisor team for Russia and CIS states. Richard Chmelar, Evghenia Voloshina, Jana Messmer, Max Evard, Ondrej Susoliak and Haris Ibisevic will join Clarus, founded six years ago.

The Zurich-based firm is also hiring Sebastien Ochalek, currently responsible for risk control on the Russia desk. Ochalek's new role at Clarus is risk and compliance officer. Earlier this year, the firm hired Roger Ganz from private bank Notenstein La Roche to run its asset management department.

Clarus defines itself as an upstart independent Swiss wealth manager. «Our door is open to qualified client advisors,» said Chief Executive Giancarlo Guetg.
