Pictet’s expert on quants decided to leave the private bank after more than two decades. He and his team will join a Hong Kong-based fund manager.

Edgar van Tuyll van Serooskerken carries a name befitting his expertise: the mathematician is one of the most renowned specialists in quantitative investments. He spent more than 20 years at Pictet in Geneva and with his team managed a portfolio worth more than $1 billion.

No more: together with his colleagues, the banker will join Hong Kong-based PAG, a fund manager, according to a PAG statement released today. PAG was founded in 2002 and specializes in private equity, real estate and alternative investments. It has 350 members of staff and manages assets worth about $20 billion.

Edgar van Tuyll and his team will remain in Geneva, according to the statement. He has a mixed crew of mathematicians, statisticians, portfolio managers and physicians to perform the tasks, including Wanfeng Yan, Guillaume van Baalen, Mingxi Wang, Eyal Hanouna, Samuel Amar and Lisa Taylor, previously deputy head of operations at Lombard Odier.
