The developments in payments transactions has a disruptive element, says Credit Suisse manager Florence Schnydrig-Moser. She is about to take over as chief executive at Swisscards, a credit card provider. Here are her reasons for switching.

Florence Schnydrig-Moser’s move from Credit Suisse to Swisscards came as a surprise – here’s Wednesday’s report by finews.com. After all, Schnydrig-Moser is giving up her job as head of products, investments and marketing at Credit Suisse Switzerland.

As a member of the executive committee at the Swiss bank, Schnydrig-Moser shared responsibility for the overall economic situation of the bank and was directly in charge of about 450 members of staff. The question therefore is whether the move isn’t a step back for the Credit Suisse banker?

Why are you giving up your job at Credit Suisse Switzerland?

I had long been tempted to assume P&L-responsibility for a company, adding to my 20 years of experience in products and management. After the resignation of the CEO the board approached me in connection with its evaluation for a successor, which pleased me very much.

What is the attraction of your future role and the credit card business as a whole?

In line with the finance industry as a whole, credit card providers are in for major change due to the progressive digitization. The future will bring significant advantages for customers thanks to new technological opportunities.

What is your qualification for the new job?

In my current role, I studied the developments in payment solutions closely. This is an experience that I will take along to Swisscard. The current developments in payment transactions are of a disruptive nature. And yet, plastic money will continue to gain in importance in comparison with cash.

Which are your main goals as future CEO of Swisscards?

New competitors and technologies pose a significant challenge to the business models of established providers. On this background, I look forward to the challenge to position the firm in a way that will secure its economic wellbeing in future.

We will see many more innovations in the credit card industry, including at Swisscard. Optimizing procedures is a big issue across the whole industry.

Florence Schnydrig-Moser was at Credit Suisse since 2000, working in a series of functions in Zurich, Australia and Hong Kong. Schnydrig-Moser won’t be replaced at Credit Suisse as the bank will close the products, investments and marketing unit, a spokesman for the bank told finews.com.

The decision to discontinue the unit was taken to improve efficiency and procedures. A large part of the unit will be assumed by Dagmar Kamber Borens, the chief operating officer of Credit Suisse Switzerland.
