Swiss exchange SIX has beefed up its troubled insider trading arm by hiring from Eurex, finews.com has learned. He joins less than two weeks after the sudden exit of another key investigator.

Zurich-based SIX hired Fabian Villiger as its head of market supervision and investigation, a source familiar with the matter told finews.com. A spokesman for SIX confirmed the hire of Villiger, who has spent the last two years as head of trading surveillance at Eurex Zurich.

However, SIX denied that Villiger directly replaces Lukas Feh, who left the exchange suddenly ten days ago. «He is not the successor to Lukas Feh, who decided to leave SIX exchange regulation,» a spokesman for the exchange operator said in a statement.

Villiger's specific title hasn't yet been defined, a SIX spokesman said, adding that the former Eurex executive «will reinforce SIX's surveillance and enforcement». Overall SIX regulation head Corinne Riguzzi (pictured below) currently oversees the insider trading department after several exits.

The departure of Feh, a 13-year veteran of the insider trading department with extensive knowledge of the technology used by SIX, raised eyebrows. He resigned just eight months after Riguzzi sacked Jared Bibler as the SIX's head of market surveillance and enforcement.

Villiger was effectively out of job from March, when the Frankfurt-based exchange said it would discontinue trading in Switzerland after the introduction of new financial market law adapted from the European Union.
