Citigroup is tapping an internal replacement for Kristine Braden as country head of Switzerland. The new Swiss boss is returning to Europe after a four-year stint in South America.

The New York-based bank is appointing Elzbieta Czetwertynska as the new country head for Switzerland as well as Monaco and Liechtenstein, effective next month. Czetwertynska replaces Kristine Braden, who left five months ago to take a job as Citi CEO Mike Corbat's chief of staff, as finews.com reported.

Like Braden, Czetwertynska is a Citi veteran, and is currently country officer for the American bank in Ecuador as well as corporate investment banking head. In that role, Citi said she is responsible for double-digit revenue growth since 2015.

Prior to Ecuador, she held several senior roles in Columbia and and her native Poland as head of treasury and trade solutions and overseeing commercial banking, respectively.

Swiss Strategic Focus

Braden was of the rare women to run a Swiss bank, and was a passionate advocate both for workplace diversity as well as for Switzerland's financial center alongside her day job. The role of overseeing Citi's results in Switzerland, managing risk and controls, and safeguarding Citi's reputation locally now falls to Czetwertynska.

«We are delighted with Elzbieta's appointment as our senior Citi representative in Switzerland, a strategically important market for Citi where we enjoy strong market position for many years», Zdenek Turek, who will become Czetwertynska's boss, said in a statement.

«We look to Elzbieta to further strengthen our successful client relationships and seek innovative ways to deliver value for our clients while ensuring a strong return on capital for our business.»
