As the Swiss private bank hands over the reins to Chairman Peter Fanconi, it is also proposing a prominent Genevan lawyer and regulatory veteran to join its board.

The Zurich-based bank is proposing Carlo Lombardini to join its board when it convenes its annual meeting on April 29, it said in a statement on Thursday. Lombardini is a partner at Poncet Turrettini, a white-collar law firm in Geneva, and an expert on banking law.

EFG, controlled by the wealthy Greek Latsis shipping family, already nominated Peter Fanconi as its new chairman, as well as Amy Yip, a prominent Asian ex-regulator and banker, as a director. Fanconi is poised to take over from John Williamson, a long-standing EFG banker.

Lombardini has extensive experience on bank boards: he is currently chairman of HSBC's bank in Luxembourg and BPI Suisse, a wealth manager owned by Spain's Caixabank. He plans to relinquish both roles in order to join EFG's board.

He is also a director of Crédit Agricole Next Bank, a retail lender, in Switzerland. EFG said it will conduct the shareholder meeting digitally due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
