Running and espresso are two fixtures for Laurent Gagnebin, CEO of Rothschild & Co in Zurich. His secret for broadening his horizons is to keeping quiet, he tells finews.com.

Laurent Gagnebin, when do you carve out time for yourself?

I try hard to keep the weekends free for my family. I'm often in Zurich during the week, and I try to take some time for myself in the evening.

What is your favorite ritual?

Drinking an espresso and reading the newspapers before I leave the house every morning.

How do you keep fit?

I sign up for a marathon every spring and autumn. It gives me enough motivation to keep running throughout the year.

How do you reward yourself?

I buy running gadgets.

Where (how) do you learn?

I read a lot, and I also learn a lot when I meet clients with interesting backgrounds. I'm lucky to encounter so many interesting people. When I meet them, I try not to talk much and to learn as much as possible.

Laurent Gagnebin joined Rothschild Wealth Management Equitas, the Genevan arm of Zurich-based Rothschild, in 2011. Prior to that, the 43-year-old ran Investec Bank in Geneva. He got his start in finance at Goldman Sachs in Switzerland, after working in the luxury hospitality industry for several years following his education at the École hôtelière de Lausanne. He took over as head of Rothschild Bank in Switzerland in 2016.
